Women’s Rowing Opens Fall Racing With Two Top-10 Finishes on the Charles

| By:
BOSTON — The Cornell women's rowing team's Club Four finished 2.006 seconds off a second straight podium finish on Saturday at the Head of the Charles Regatta, placing fourth in a 48-boat field. The Big Red's Championship Four followed on Sunday with a 10th-place finish.

The weekend opened the competitive portion of Cornell's fall season. The Big Red returns to the water on Saturday, Oct. 24, when it competes at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Starting from bow 2, the Club Four, coxed by sophomore Charlotte Hastings and stroked by junior Cedar Wink, crossed the finish in 19:20.007. Boston University won the event in 19:08.842, Columbia placed second in 19:10.306 and SMU took third in 19:18.001.

Cornell was in medal position for most of the course. It ranked third at both the Riverside Boat Club (4:37.429) and Weld Boathouse (10:53.117) timing points. SMU moved past between the Weld and the Cambridge Boat Club, reaching the CBC mark 1.182 seconds ahead of Cornell, and pulled away over the final stretch.

Cornell held off Columbia's second entry by 0.213 seconds (19:20.220) to secure fourth. The Big Red was the second-fastest Ivy League crew in the field, finishing ahead of Brown (17th) and Dartmouth (29th). The result came a year after Cornell took bronze in the event, the program's first Head of the Charles podium since 2017.

In the Championship Fours, the four coxed by junior Charlotte Langlois and stroked by junior Amelia King raced from bow 16 and finished in 17:56.970. That placed Cornell 10th among 19 finishers and seventh among the 13 collegiate crews that completed the course. Penn won the event in 17:12.300.

Cornell sat 12th at both the Weld and Cambridge Boat Club timing points before a 3:04.752 closing segment lifted it two spots. Over that stretch the Big Red passed Brown and Columbia's second boat, and it finished 0.167 seconds ahead of Thames (17:57.137). Cornell also finished ahead of Boston College, Wisconsin, Eastern Michigan and Princeton's second entry.
