NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Lennon Harrington converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute to give the Cornell men's soccer team a 1-1 draw at Yale on Saturday at Reese Stadium.
The Big Red (10-3-1, 5-0-1 Ivy League) remain unbeaten in league play. They had already clinched the Ivy title. Yale moved to 4-6-4 overall and 2-1-3 in the Ivy League.
Cornell controlled much of the match, outshooting the Bulldogs 15-9 and holding a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. The Big Red also earned nine corner kicks. Neither team scored in a first half in which Cornell led in shots 5-1.
Yale broke through in the 81st minute. Teague McCammon's shot from the center of the box was saved by Cornell goalkeeper Reuben Clarson, and Sven Meacham then converted a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.
Cornell answered less than four minutes later. Harrington, who came off the bench, buried a penalty kick of his own in the 85th minute to level the score at 1-1.
Harrington finished with two shots, one on goal, in 58 minutes. Blake Donahue led Cornell with three shots, two of them on goal, and Connor Miller put two shots on frame, one on goal, in 90 minutes. Adam Schaban and Nate Hovan each had a shot on goal.
Clarson played all 90 minutes and made two saves. Yale's Joshua Linebaugh made five saves, including stops on Donahue twice, Schaban, Miller and Hovan.
Both teams struggled with discipline. Cornell was whistled for 12 fouls and three yellow cards, to Yale's 16 fouls and two yellow cards.
