ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's squash team will close out its Ivy League season on Saturday, Feb. 14, when it hosts No. 4 Yale at noon at Belkin Squash Courts. The match, which will be streamed live on Stretch Internet, will also serve as Senior Day as the Big Red honors
Sebastian Dobron and
Jeh Pandole before the first matches.
Cornell (4-8, 0-5 Ivy League) enters the weekend ranked No. 10 in the CSA rankings but faces a Bulldogs squad that holds a commanding 64-3 advantage in the all-time series. Yale has won 13 straight meetings between the two programs, with Cornell's last victory coming in an 8-1 triumph on Feb. 17, 2012, at Princeton. The Big Red's last home win over the Bulldogs dates back even further — a 7-3 decision on Dec. 12, 1972.
The Big Red will look to snap a seven-match losing streak that stretches back to Nov. 21, when it swept No. 18 Western, 9-0. Most recently, the Big Red fell 8-1 to seventh-ranked Columbia last Saturday in New York City, with sophomore
Youssef Sarhan claiming a four-game victory over Shaurya Bawa at the No. 2 position. Sarhan improved his team-leading dual match record to 7-4 overall and is 5-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Sophomore
Vivaan Shah has also been productive this season with a 6-5 record, while junior
Syan Singh sits at 5-5 on the year. Singh has shouldered the load at the top position, playing eight of his 10 matches there.
Yale (5-3, 3-1 Ivy League) comes to Ithaca having dropped its last two matches — a 6-3 loss to No. 2 Harvard on Feb. 1 and a 9-0 defeat to top-ranked Trinity on Wednesday. Despite the recent setbacks, the Bulldogs remain ranked fourth nationally.
Tad Carney leads Yale with a 7-1 record, while Rishi Srivastava (6-1) and Rohan Gondi (6-2) have also been consistent contributors throughout the season.
During Yale's 13-match winning streak in the series, Cornell has managed just two wins or fewer in all but one contest — a narrow 5-4 loss on Jan. 12, 2014, in New Haven.
