ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team used a 4-0 run in the fourth to pull away and earn a 19-15 win over Garrison Forest on Friday evening at the Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 9-2 on the season with the victory.
The Big Red took a 12-11 lead into the half in a high-scoring first 15 minutes and never trailed, but couldn't pull away either.
Lara Chong scored nine goals, while
Samantha Iahn and
Naomi Marlough each tallied five scores.Â
"That's great win for our women tonight," said
Anthony Condo Jr., the Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo. "We had a few mis-steps at times, whereby our communication on the field was lacking, but a fourth-quarter barrage out of about six consecutive throw-ins proved to be the difference tonight. I'm very proud of our team and the resilience they displayed bringing this one home. Garrison Forest is a well-schooled team, with a rich tradition and a championship mentality year after year. It's always a fun time to play against them, and we're thrilled to get this win."
The Big Red returns to action when it meets the Denver Polo Club on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at Oxley.
