#10 Men's Squash Closes Out Regular Season With Sweep of #21 URochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Cornell men's squash team concluded the regular-season portion of its schedule with a 9-0 sweep of 21st-ranked University of Rochester at the Lyman Squash Courts on Wednesday evening.

Cornell (5-9), which snapped its eight-match losing streak, posted five straight-game victories as the Big Red improved to 65-20 all-time against the Yellowjackets. Senior Jeh Pandole (No. 8), juniors Syan Singh (No. 1) and Arnav Tevatia (No. 4), sophomore Vivaan Shah (No. 9) and freshman Aly Ezzat (No. 3) were the Big Red players to win in three games.

Shah made quick work of Sam Knoll, conceding just four points in his three-game victory that lasted only 15 minutes.

The remaining four Big Red victories all came in four games. Sophomore Youssef Sarhan (No. 2) and freshmen Edward Thng (No. 5) and Daniel King (No. 7) each jumped out to 2-0 leads before their Yellowjacket counterparts staved off being swept with wins in the third game.

Sophomore Roman Bicknell avenged dropping the first game in his match at No. 6 against Karim Moataz in resounding fashion, dropping just three points over the next three games.

No. 2: Youssef Sarhan def. Dhirren Rajarathinam, 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3.
No. 3: Aly Ezzat def. Thomas Valderrama, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9.
No. 4: Arnav Tevatia def. Kareem Azzam, 11-9, 11-7, 11-4.
No. 5: Edward Thng def. Arjith Mathew, 11-6, 11-6, 6-11, 11-7.
No. 6: Roman Bicknell def. Karim Moataz, 12-14, 11-1, 11-0, 11-2.
No. 7: Daniel King def. Vandrick Inman-Benavente, 15-13, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9.
No. 8: Jeh Pandole def. Preston Wu, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.
No. 9: Vivaan Shah def. Sam Knoll, 11-1, 11-2, 11-1.

UP NEXT
Cornell will have the next two weekends off as it prepares for the CSA National Team Championships, which begin Thursday, March 5, at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.

Seedings and draws for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
