Men's Tennis Faces St. John's On Saturday At Reis Tennis Center

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's tennis team will look to remain unbeaten at home when it welcomes St. John's to Reis Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on Stretch Internet.

Cornell is 3-1 on the season with road wins over Louisville and Purdue a home sweep of Buffalo this past week in its home opener. Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets in favor of the Big Red, with senior Petar Teodorovic slamming the door on the shutout with a narrow 7-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Rodrgio Fernandes is 12-5 on the season from the top spot, with Felipe Pinzon a perfect 4-0 in dual match competition in the top half of the lineup. The doubles tandem of Rushil Khosla and Senthil Kumar Rethin Pranav is now 9-1 on the season and a percent 3-0 at No. 2 doubles, while the NCAA qualifying pair of Pinzon and Teodorovic is off to a 7-1 start. Head coach Silviu Tanasiou sports a 189-107 career record (.639) entering the weekend.

The Big Red has had great success in the all-time series against the Red Storm, winning 24 of 25 previous matches and 23 in a row dating back to the 1995-96 season. Cornell is 14-0 all-time against St. John's in Ithaca, including last season's 6-1 victory on March 15, 2025.

The Red Storm is off to a 3-0 start prior to a Wednesday midweek match against Drexel and is eyeing its third Big East team title in the past four seasons under head coach Dillon Pottish, the 2025 conference coach of the year. The Johnnies secured a program record 25 victories last spring, surpassing the 20-win mark for the third straight season under Pottish. The doubles team of Semen Aginskiy and Venedikt Tsirikidze is ranked No. 32 nationally.

The Big Red will be back in action at the ECAC Indoor Championshiip from Feb. 13-15 at Princeton.
