NEW YORK — The 10th-ranked Cornell men's squash team dropped its seventh consecutive match on Saturday, falling 8-1 to seventh-ranked Columbia at the SL Green StreetSquash Center.
The Big Red (4-8, 0-5 Ivy League) managed just one victory in the Ivy League matchup, as sophomore
Youssef Sarhan posted a four-game win at the No. 2 position, defeating Shaurya Bawa 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.
Columbia (5-4, 2-3 Ivy) won the remaining eight matches to extend its winning streak over Cornell to four matches. The Lions were led by strong performances from Ahmad Haq, who cruised to an 11-3, 11-3, 11-0 victory over freshman
Edward Thng at No. 4 and Imad Athar, who posted an 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 win over junior
Arnav Tevatia at No. 5.
At the top position, junior
Syan Singh fell to Yusuf Sheikh in straight games, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5. Several other matches went the distance, including a five-game battle at No. 7 where Varun Fuloria edged senior
Jeh Pandole 6-11, 11-6, 14-12, 6-11, 11-6, and a four-game contest at No. 8 where Laszlo Godde defeated sophomore
Vivaan Shah 8-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-9.
