Men's Tennis Grabs Key Win Over Quakers In Neutral Site Matchup

THE BRONX, N.Y. -- No. 32 Cornell secured a key victory away from home on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 36 Penn 4-2 in men's tennis action at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 10-2 on the season, while Penn dropped to 9-4. It was Cornell's second win of the year against Penn.

Cornell claimed the doubles point with victories at the bottom two positions. Petar Teodorovic and Felipe Pinzon opened with a 6-3 win at No. 3, and Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar teamed with Rushil Khosla for a 6-4 victory at No. 2 to give the Big Red the early lead. The top match went unfinished, though the Big Red held a 5-4 edge on the second-ranked team in the nation when the match was halted.

In singles play, Cornell quickly extended its advantage. Teodorovic rallied past Luka Butera 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, and Senthil Kumar added another point with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Matthew Rutter at No. 5 to put the Big Red ahead 3-0. Penn responded with wins at Nos. 6 and 4 to cut the deficit to one. Vojtech Vales defeated Aman Sharma in straight sets at No. 6, and Justin Chung edged Pinzon in three sets at No. 4.

The clinching point came at the top of the lineup, where Rodrigo Fernandes battled past No. 52 Manfredi Graziani 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to seal Cornell's fourth point. The No. 2 singles match was left unfinished once the outcome was decided.

Cornell returns to action when it welcomes Memphis (Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m.) and Middle Tennessee (Sunday, March 22 at 11 a.m.) at Reis Tennis Center.
