Equestrian Sends Quintet to Zone II Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. --- Five Cornell equestrian riders will compete at the Zone II Championships on Saturday, April 4 in Rochester, N.Y. The championships will be hosted by RIT.

Riley Gerardo will compete in both open flat and open fences after capturing regional championships in both divisions at the Regional Championships on March 8. The senior also finished second in the Cacciatore Cup and earned Reserve High Point Rider honors twice during the regular season at RIT Show II and Cornell Show II.

Jianna Simcik qualified in two divisions after earning the regional championship in intermediate fences and finishing as reserve champion in intermediate flat. The senior was named High Point Rider at Cornell Show I and placed ninth in the Cacciatore Cup at regionals.

Clara Beck will compete in limit fences after winning the regional championship in the division. The senior also finished fifth in limit flat at the Regional Championships.

Evelyn Gurvich earned the regional championship in novice to advance to Zone II Championships. The senior posted three second place finishes during the regular season and has been a consistent performer in the division throughout the year.

Alexa Carey captured the regional championship in introductory to qualify for zones. The sophomore recorded six first place finishes during the regular season and has been dominant in introductory competition.
