Big Red Swept By Brown In Doubleheader

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep from Brown on Sunday afternoon at Niemand-Robison Field. The Bears took the opening game 5-3, and followed that performance with a 14-1 run-rule victory to claim the series win over the Big Red.

Emma Harshberger led Cornell across the doubleheader, highlighted by a 2-for-4 performance with a home run, double, and two RBIs in game one, while adding another hit and RBI in game two to anchor the offense. She was supported by Charlize Cai and Tarisa Frans, who combined for five hits and multiple runs scored, providing much of Cornell's offensive production on the day.

Cornell's pitching staff faced a tough outing overall. Mila Fiordalisi threw a complete game in the opener, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits, while Harshberger took the loss in the second game after allowing six runs in the opening innings. Madalyn Covelli, Fiordalisi, and Cai combined in relief in game two, but the staff allowed 14 runs on 11 hits in the run-rule loss.

Game One
The Bears struck first in the second inning on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead before adding to it in the third inning. Thompson homered to center field to make it 2-0, and Borowski followed with a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 4-0.

The Big Red responded in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the deficit. Frans delivered an RBI single to make it 4-1, and Lauren Holt added a sacrifice fly to bring Cornell within 4-2. Cornell continued to battle and trimmed the margin to 4-3 in the sixth inning as Harshberger homered to left center.

Brown added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-3. Cornell was unable to complete the comeback in the final frame, as Brown held on for the two-run victory.

Game Two
The Bears jumped out quickly in the first inning, scoring three runs on an RBI single and a two-run single to take a 3-0 lead. Brown extended the advantage in the second inning with a five-run frame, highlighted by an RBI double and multiple runs scoring on wild pitches, pushing the lead to 8-0.

Cornell got on the board in the second inning when Olivia Green singled to bring home a run and cut the deficit to 8-1. Brown responded immediately in the third inning, capitalizing on two Cornell errors and a wild pitch to extend the lead to 11-1. The Bears continued to add on in the fifth inning with three more runs, taking advantage of additional defensive miscues to push the score to 14-1.

Cornell was unable to generate further offense, as the game ended after five innings due to the run rule.
