ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's soccer senior midfielder and co-captain Emily Gibbons has been named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week after an impressive opening week of the 2026 season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

A native of Hingham, Mass., Gibbons led the Ivy League with five points and two goals across Cornell's first two matches of the season. Against St. Bonaventure on Thursday, Gibbons recorded a goal and an assist to pace the Big Red's attack in its season-opening 3-2 victory over the Bonnies. She then followed that performance by scoring the opening goal in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Boston College.

Dating back to last season's regular-season finale, Gibbons has now scored in three consecutive matches. Gibbons is the first Cornell player to score in both of Cornell's first two matches to begin a season since Peyton Nichols '24 scored in the first three matches to begin the 2021 campaign.

Head coach Rob Ferguson has seen the senior's growth firsthand throughout preseason and into the first two matches.

"Technically and tactically, she's got terrific quality, and that's shown," Ferguson said. "She's a much better Division I athlete physically and mentally now than she was as an underclassman. The technical and tactical quality was always there, so now she's able to be out there with such great confidence to do all of the things. You give her the ball in and around the goal, she's going to be a threat. She's going to score goals."

Looking to extend her scoring streak to four matches, Gibbons and Cornell (1-1-0) continue their season-opening homestand against Lafayette (0-1-2) on Thursday, Aug. 27. Kickoff from Berman Field is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the match streamed live on ESPN+.
