ITHACA, N.Y. -- Junior
Filip Versterre has been named the Ivy League Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after a stellar debut in goal for the Big Red during its 2026 season-opening win over Marist this past weekend. It is Versterre's first conference weekly honor from the Ivy League.
Versterre posted a clean sheet, making a pair of highlight-reel saves in the second half, including the first to keep Cornell at a 1-0 lead in an eventual 3-0 triumph at Marist. The transfer from South Carolina directed a defense that surrendered just eight total shots overall and two on goal in the convincing season-opening victory.
The Big Red will open its home slate when it meets UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at Berman Field. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
