Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Contest At Ohio State to Complete Road Swing

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State scored twice in the second quarter and made it stand up, blanking Cornell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field. The loss was the Big Red's fourth straight on its road trip, and Cornell fell to 1-4 while the Buckeyes improved to 4-2.

Sienna Golden opened the scoring at 16:37, redirecting a rebound past junior goalkeeper Martha Broderick for an unassisted goal. Ohio State doubled its lead just over 11 minutes later when Lea DeWan converted a feed from Raleigh Kerst at 27:40, and the Buckeyes carried a 2-0 cushion into the second half.

Cornell had its chances but couldn't solve the Ohio State defense, managing just three shots on the afternoon compared to 11 for the Buckeyes. Broderick made four saves in goal for the Big Red, while Ohio State used a pair of goalkeepers - Maddie Stevens in the first half and Avery Alleva in the second - to combine on the shutout. Neither team found the back of the cage over the final two periods.

The Big Red will attempt to rebound for Ivy League play when it hosts Columbia on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. at Marsha Dodson Field.
