NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Junior TJ Betlow shot a 4-over-par 75 to lead the Cornell men's golf team through the opening round of the 48th Macdonald Cup on Friday at the par-71 Yale Golf Course.

Betlow sits in a tie for 12th in the 68-player field, six shots behind individual leader Alex Zhang of Harvard. Zhang's 2-under 69 was the day's only under-par round. Davidson's Davis Sayman and Seton Hall's Will Hennessee are tied for second after even-par 71s.

As a team, the Big Red is in 10th place in the 11-team field with a 313 (+29), two strokes behind Penn (311). Harvard leads at 293 (+9), followed by Seton Hall at 299 (+15) and Princeton at 300 (+16).

Senior Tyler Debusschere was Cornell's second-best finisher, carding a 77 (+6) to sit in a tie for 29th. Sophomore Shep Davis shot an 80 (+9) and is tied for 47th, while freshman Toby Gu is tied for 53rd after an 81 (+10). Freshman Asher Rush shot an 82 (+11) and is tied for 56th, as is junior Jack Burda, who also carded an 82 while competing as an individual.

The tournament's final two rounds were cancelled due to weather in New Haven, Conn. Results from round one are final.
