Biography

As a sophomore (2019-20)

• Raced in eight meets throughout his sophomore season.
• Qualified for the A Final of the 200-freestyle at the Zippy Invitational, finishing second in a personal-best 1:39.30, a mark which ranks eighth all-time in Cornell history.
• Made the B Final of the 100-freestyle (45.57) and 500-freestyle (4:33.95) at the Zippy Invitational, finishing 10th in both events.
• His 100-freestyle time at the Zippy Invitational was a season-best.
• Part of the 800-freestyle relay that posted the sixth-fastest time in Big Red history (6:36.21) at the Zippy Invitational.
• Notched top-five finishes in the 200-freestyle at dual meets against St. Bonaventure, Columbia, Yale, and Brown, including second place showings against the Bonnies and Bears.
• Also placed second in the 100-freestyle in Cornell’s victory over St. Bonaventure.

As a freshman (2018-19)

• Part of the Ivy League Championship lineup.
• Anchored an 800 free relay that won the Ithaca Bomber Invitational in 6:39.88, a mark that ranks eighth in school history.
• Took second in both the 100 and 200 free at the Bomber Invite.
• Claimed second in the 500 free in a dual meet win over St. Bonaventure and the 1,000 free against Bryant.
• His 200 free time (1:39.63) at the Ivy meet was a lifetime best.

Prior to Cornell

• Hitchens was a nine-time NISCA All-American at Northwood HS.
• Senior captain of a sectional and state championship team.
• Graduated with three school records.
• Earned all-county honors as a senior.
• Captured multiple club and Southern California age group records while swimming for Irvine Novaquatics.
• Was a five-time North American Challenge Cup team member.
• Named to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-America team three straight years.
• Was an MLC Aquatic Invitational SCM Finalist in Melbourne, Australia in 2015.

Personal

• Hunter Reeves Hitchens is the son of Dean and Maria Hitchens and has a younger sister and two younger brothers.
• He is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
