At Cornell: For the second year in a row, Thompson posted the most wins on the team with a 41-10 record (.803). She also went 10-5 at the Ivy League championships, garnering second-team All-Ivy honors in the process. At the 2009 IFA championship, Thompson finished eighth in pool-A, winning all four of her matches, before getting knocked out of the individual tournament in the second round by the eventual bronze medalist. In her sophomore season, Thompson posted the most wins of anyone on the fencing team with a 40-13 record and ranked second overall in win percentage (.755). She also posted an impressive 10-8 record at the Ivy League championships to finish ninth overall in epee. Thompson finished eighth in the A division at the IFA championships to help the Big Red epee squad take sixth overall. She placed 10th at the NCAA regionals and barely missed out on earning a trip to the NCAA championships. Thompson had an incredible finish at the Junior Olympics, taking 16th overall. She finished her rookie season as the epee squad’s leader in win percentage (.667) and ranked second in wins, posting a 36-18 record. She also had the best Ivy League finish on the epee squad with a 10-7 record (.588). Thompson finished ninth in the B group at the IFA Championships and narrowly missed advancing to the 2007 NCAA tournament with an 11th-place finish at NCAA regionals.  

Prior to Cornell: Thompson fenced for four years at Casady School under the direction of Coaches Bob Fiegle and Carolyn Gresham-Fiegel. She competed at summer nationals and the 2005 and 2006 Junior Olympics, placing as high as 41st in epee while also competing in foil. 

Personal: Katherine Elise Thompson is the daughter of Karen and Karl Thompson and has a younger sister. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
