McKallagat further established himself as a key member of the defensive corps, appearing in 13 games as a junior, starting in eight of those. He scored his first collegiate goal on Oct. 20 against Brown, then added an assist in the next game three days later at Penn State. McKallagat saw significant time on the back line for the Big Red as a sophomore, starting in nine of the 12 games he appeared in. He recorded an assist on Matt Bouraee’s goal against Yale on Oct. 13 that gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead. His play helped the Big Red to allow just 16 goals while posting four shutouts. As a freshman, he appeared in nine games, starting three times, and tallied his first collegiate point on an assist on David Browning’s goal on Sept. 16 against UMass.
 
At The Groton School
McKallagat played three years of varsity soccer for The Groton School. He was a three-time All-ISL pick, being named to the  first team in 2003 and 2004. He was named the team MVP in both 2003 and 2004 and was an All-New England selection as a senior. He played one year of soccer for Cavalry Christian School, earning first-team All-NHIAA honors. In 2003, McKallagat played for the American Umbro Select Team, winning the MVP award. The following year, he won the team MVP playing for the Region I Team.

Personal
Daniel Phillip McKallagat is the son of Shawn and Cindy McKallagat and has one older brother and one older sister. He is a student in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences.
