Yonga continued his versatility for as a junior, making 12 appearances for the Big Red while starting on the back line and in the midfield. He started both contests at the UK Nike Soccer Classic in Lexington, Ky., and was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts in helping the Big Red to the tournament title. Yonga proved to be one of the most versatile players for the Big Red, starting all over the field in the 15 games during the season as a sophomore. He saw some time up front, but as the year progressed he found himself a mainstay along the back line. Yonga was recognized by Ivy League coaches for his play, earning honorable mention All-Ivy League honors for the second straight season. As a freshman, he came off the bench for his first two games, but quickly worked his way into the starting lineup, a spot he has not relinquished. He picked up his first collegiate point in the win over Penn in 2005, and tallied another the next game, a win over Harvard, on his way to honorable mention all-league accolades.

At Totino Grace
Yonga was a four-year starter and four-time letter winner at Totino Grace. Playing midfield, Yonga was an all-conference honorable mention pick in 2001 and was named all-conference and all-state honorable mention in 2002. In 2003 and 2004, he captained his team and was an all-state, all-conference and all-tournament selection. He added an all-metro nod in 2004. He was a five-time Minnesota state champion with his club teams and won the state cup four times.  

Personal
Joseph Ntouko Yonga is the son of Jerry and Diane Yonga and has a younger brother and an older sister. He is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell.
