Biography
Senior Season — 2011-12
Hartigan returned to the team after a year off, slotting anywhere from No. 1 to No. 6 in the order with a 15-5 record. He most frequently appeared at No. 5, where he was 7-2, including a four-game victory over Yale's Ryan Dowd on Feb. 17 to help the Big Red win its first Potter Cup quarterfinal in program history. Hartigan won 12 of his first 13 matches, only needing a fourth game on one occasion in that stretch.
At Cornell:
He has served as a steady presence in the top three spots of the lineup, posting a 9-7 record as a sophomore en route to being voted the team's most improved player by his teammates.
Prior to Cornell:
Hartigan placed third at the Junior Nationals in squash, and was 13th at the Dutch Open. He also lettered in tennis and golf. Playing in the No. 1 position, Hartigan helped lead his tennis team to a state championship in the spring of 2007 and his golf team to a state championship in the fall of 2005.
Personal:
William B. Hartigan is the son of Tony and Cecie Hartigan, and he has two older sisters. He is enrolled in Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences and is majoring in American studies.
