At Cornell
2010-11:
In a 36-2 season in which he was named the Ivy League Wrestler of the Year, Simaz earned NCAA All-America honors for the third time and won the EIWA title at 197 pounds for the third consecutive year.  He was second on the team in bonus point wins with 25 and his 17 falls put him atop the Cornell record book, along with Steve Anceravage ’09, for most pins in a single season.
Simaz began the campaign by grabbing the championship at the Binghamton Open for the second straight time. The next week, he clinched the opening dual of the season for the Big Red with a first period pin over Central Michigan’s Craig Kelliher.  Simaz then stormed to the final of the Body Bar with a pair of pins and a technical fall before dropping a one-point bout to Kent State’s Dustin Kilgore.  He bounced back by dominating his way through the Las Vegas Invitational where he won the title in convincing fashion.  He then captured the championship at the Southern Scuffle in a very deep field.  Simaz scored bonus points in his first four matches and then outlasted George Mason’s Cayle Byers in the final despite an injury.  When the junior returned to the lineup, he cruised through the dual portion of the schedule, winning all nine matches, with six by fall.  For his efforts, he garnered First Team All-Ivy status for the third time.  When Simaz pinned Mike Pushpak of Columbia in February, he reached his milestone 100th collegiate victory. Simaz remained undefeated at the EIWA tournament as he stood on top of the podium as the conference champion, just as he did as a freshman and sophomore.  He won his first three bouts at NCAAs, including a fall over Indiana’s Matt Powless, before Kilgore clipped him by one point in the semifinals.  He responded by pinning Stanford’s Zack Giesen and beating Wisconsin’s Trevor Brandvold to take third place for the second season in a row.  The economics major was named to the NWCA All-Academic Team for the second time.

2009-10: An NCAA All-American, EIWA champion and first-team All-Ivy pick at 197 pounds, Simaz went 42-6 with 11 pins and 32 total bonus victories. Simaz placed third at the NCAAs, culminating in an overtime victory over Hudson Taylor of Maryland to place. He was second on the team in falls, first in major decisions (13) and bonus wins (32). The sopho¬more opened his season by claiming the title at the Brute Binghamton Open and followed with a second-place finish at the Body Bar Invitational. At the Las Vegas Invitational, he took third, and with a 5-0 mark, Simaz won the Southern Scuffle. This season, Simaz has already squared off against numerous NCAA qualifiers for a 16-5 record. At the New York state championships, Simaz earned bonus points in all four of his matches to win the title and help the Big Red grab the team victory. In dual competition, he was 10-3 earning 43 points for Cornell. He was named to the NWCA All-Academic Team.

2008-09: At his first NCAA Tournament, Simaz earned All-America honors, placing seventh. Simaz went 3-0 at the EIWA tournament to earn an automatic bid the NCAA tournament. The rookie opened with a tech fall over East Stroudsburg’s Shane Mallory, and won by injury default in 2:46 over Penn’s Thomas Shovlin. Simaz won the title after Army’s Richard Starks forfeited due to medical reasons. Simaz had a perfect 5-0 record against the Ancient Eight to be named Ivy League Rookie of the Year and first-team All-Ivy. He is the fifth-straight Big Red wrestler to earn Rookie of the Year honors, and is the first Cornell wrestler over 150 pounds to ever capture the honor. Simaz opened the National Duals with a 3-2 decision over No. 4 Tyrel Todd of Michigan. He followed with a 12-4 major decision over Ohio State’s Cody Gardner that provided the Big Red with the bonus point to win the quarterfinal dual over the Buckeyes. Simaz won by fall over Penn State’s Clay Steadman in 4:38 in his first collegiate dual. Opening the season competing at 184 pounds, Simaz placed second at the Brute Binghamton Open.
