At Cornell
2009-10:
A 2010 EIWA champion and first-team All-Ivy League pick, Grey qualified for his third NCAA tournament at 133 pounds. He finished the year with a 36-8 record with 21 bonus wins, including eight pins, and captured three victories at the NCAAs.  Grey pinned Navy’s Allen Stein in the EIWA quarterfinals in 2:06, before winning a 10-1 major decision over NCAA qualifier David Marble (Bucknell). Grey won the championship with an 8-2 decision over Lehigh’s Matt Fisk. Grey opened his season by winning the Brute Binghamton Open, and followed by placing third at the Body Bar Invitational. With a 4-1 record, he finished in second place at the Las Vegas Invitational after being edged out by Cal Poly’s Boris Novachkov in the finals by a 5-3 decision. To round out his regular season tournament schedule, Grey finished third at the Southern Scuffle and won the title at the New York state championships. He went 11-3 in dual meet competition with eight bonus wins, including his third straight perfect Ivy League slate.

2008-09: With a 2-1 mark, Grey finished second at the EIWA tournament to earn his second bid to the NCAA tournament. He opened the weekend with a 15-2 major decision over Whitt Dunning of Army, and advanced to the finals with a 9-3 victory over No. 14 ranked Matt Fisk of Lehigh. Grey was edged out in the finals, 5-3, by No. 10 Joe Baker of Navy. In his sophomore campaign, he opened the year wrestling at 141 pounds but moved back down to 133 for the second half of the season. At 141, Grey won the title at the Brute Binghamton Open, and at 133 he placed third at the Southern Scuffle. At the National Duals, Grey won a 7-5 decision in sudden victory over No. 6 Nick Fanthrope of Iowa State and followed that with a 4-3 win over No. 5 Daniel Dennis of Iowa. Grey remained perfect against Ancient Eight competition for the second-straight year to once again capture first-team All-Ivy honors.

2007-08: In his rookie season, Grey went 3-1 at the EIWA tournament to place third, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. A No. 7 seed at nationals, Grey earned All-American status with a sixth place finish and 4-3 record. Grey led the Big Red in wins with 42, and has a team-high 15 victories by major decision.. With a 13-1 record in dual matches, he defeated all five of his Ivy League opponents to earn first-team All-Ivy honors as well as being named Rookie of the Year. Grey opened his season by winning the Brute Binghamton Open and followed that with second-place finishes at the Body Bar Invitational and Nittany Lion Open. He also was third at the Reno Tournament of Champions and second at the Southern Scuffle.

Prior to Cornell
With a career record of 157-2 at Delbarton School, Grey was the first four-time New Jersey state champion. He wrestled at 103, 112, 119, and 125 pounds. At 125 pounds, Grey recorded 120 wins by fall. He is a junior national freestyle champion and a NHSCA champ.

Personal
Michael Joseph Grey is the son of John and Judy Grey, and has two brothers. Majoring in developmental sociology, he is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
