At Cornell
2009-10:
The NCAA runner-up at 174 pounds, Lewnes was named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year for the second straight season after earning a 40-1 record with 14 wins by fall. The NCAA All-American was selected to receive the Coaches’ Trophy as the EIWA tournament most valuable player. Lewnes brought an unblemished record (36-0) into the NCAA tournament for the second-year in a row after moving up a weight class to 174 pounds. The junior continued his perfect career record in regular season tournaments to earn the titles at the Brute Binghamton Open, Body Bar Invitational, Las Vegas Invitational and Southern Scuffle. In the Big Red’s first dual of the season against Maryland, Lewnes dominated No. 4 Mike Letts to win an 18-3 technical fall in seven minutes. Lewnes charged past 15 NCAA qualifiers this season for a total of 17 wins. Lewnes earned bonus points in 24 of his 41 matches this season and led the Big Red in dual points with 60. With 14 wins by fall, Lewnes broke the Big Red’s career pins record (37 pins) with a total of 40 in his three year career. He became just the 12th wrestler in Cornell history to surpass 100 career wins on Feb. 13th when he topped No. 17 Scott Giffin of Penn, 13-4. During the offseason, Lewnes finished second at University World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo. In the freestyle at 84 kg/185 lbs.

2008-09: With a 4-0 record, Lewnes won his second-consecutive EIWA title to qualify for the NCAA tournament. The sophomore entered the NCAAs as the No. 1 seed at 165 pounds with an unblemished 35-0 record. Lewnes led the team in pins with 13 and was the co-leader in wins with 35. With a 5-0 mark against the Ancient Eight, he was named the Ivy League Wrestler of the Year and first-team All-Ivy. In just two seasons with the Big Red, Lewnes has won 10 tournament titles, with his only tournament losses coming at the NCAAs. Lewnes went 4-0 at the National Duals, where he posted wins over three top-five ranked wrestlers. With 26 total pins, he ranks fifth in the Big Red’s record books for career falls. Lewnes won 20 of his matches last season with bonus points. With a 24-2 record in tournament action, Lewnes won titles at the Southern Scuffle, Las Vegas Invitational, Body Bar Invitational and Brute Binghamton Open to go along with his top finish at the EIWAs. Lewnes wrestled at the 2008 All-Star Classic and lost a narrow 3-2 decision in an exhibition match to Missouri’s Nick Marable. He was named EIWA Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 25 after opening the season with 10 bonus wins in 11 matches. 

2007-08:
Lewnes was presented Cornell's Jeff Stenstrom Memorial Award that is given to the Cornell freshman athlete who best exemplifies leadership qualities through dedication and stength of character. At 165 pounds, Lewnes earned his first All-America honors placing fourth at the NCAA tournament, where he was the only freshman to advance to the semifinals. The rookie opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over Old Dominion’s Chris Brown, and followed with a pin in 4:09 against West Virginia’s Donald Jones. In the quarterfinals, he won 6-5 in a tiebreaker against No. 5 Stephen Dwyer of Nebraska. Lewnes then faced No. 1 seed Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan. Tannenbaum advanced to the finals with a 4-0 win over the Big Red wrestler. In the wrestlebacks, Lewnes pinned No. 10 Michael Cannon of American to advance to the third-place bout. He placed fourth after being edged out, 3-2, by No. 3 Nick Marable of Missouri. Lewnes defeated all four of his opponents at the EIWA championships en route to winning his first individual title at 165 pounds and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Lewnes is second on the team in wins with 36, and has just five losses. He also is second among the Big Red in pins with 13. Lewnes opened his rookie campaign with a 12-match win streak where he won titles at the Brute Binghamton Open and Body Bar Invitational. He also placed first at the Reno Tournament of Champions and Southern Scuffle. Lewnes was named the EIWA Freshman of the Year.

Prior to Cornell University
Lewnes was a four-time Maryland state champion for Mount Saint Joseph HS. A two-time national prep champion, he also was a Beast of the East Champion. Lewnes was a two-time Powerade champion and took the title at the Iron Man championships. He also won the championship at both the Dapper Dan and Dream Team championships. He comes to Cornell with a 187-13 career record. Lewnes was in the top 15% of his class and graduated with a perfect grade point average.  

Personal
Mack Charles Lewnes is the son of Charlie and Pam Lewnes. His brother, Sam, wrestled for Oklahoma State University. Lewnes is enrolled in the College of Hotel Administration.
