At Cornell
Junior (2009): An honorable mention All-Ivy selection at catcher in 2009, Leonhard hit .284 while setting career highs in games played (41), games started (38), hits (27), doubles (five) and RBI (16). She had six multi-hit contests, including a 3-for-3 game with am RBI against Niagara. She blasted her lone home run at Harvard on April 4. She committed just two errors in 244 chances behind the plate (.992 fielding percentage).
Sophomore (2008): During her sophomore season, Leonhard appeared in 29 games for the Big Red, starting 26. She batted .333 on the season and her .452 on base percentage ranked second on the team. Leonhard had three-RBI performances against Norfolk State, Ithaca, and Princeton and finished with 15 RBI. Behind the plate, Leonhard was second on the team with 147 putouts and threw out 42 percent of would-be base-stealers.
Freshman (2007): Leonhard played in 18 games during her freshman campaign. She drove in a run with a double against Central Connecticut State in her second game with the Big Red. Leonhard had her second RBI with another double at George Mason on March 4. Spending most of her time playing catcher, Leonhard notched 31 put outs and one assist.
At Abbotsford Secondary
Leonhard was Abbotsford Secondary's Female Athlete of the Year her freshman, sophomore, and senior years. She was named to the all-star team at the 2005 Canada Cup. Leonhard also played volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Her freshman and sophomore years, she was top academic student and was on the principal's list throughout high school.
Personal
Vanessa Dawn Leonhard is the daughter of Glenn and Cheryl Leonhard. She has an older brother and step-sister. Majoring in chemistry, she is a student in Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences.
