Biography

At Cornell: A co-captain this year, Huyler enters his senior year after a stellar junior season where he established himself among the elite in the country and the greatest high jumper in Cornell history. He set new school records indoors at 7-1 and Outdoors at 7-2 1/2, and his PR clearance places him eighth all-time among Ivy League athletes. Along the way, he missed the NCAA indoor meet by one centimeter, but scored at the NCAA regional championships, both for the second year in a row, advancing to the NCAA finals and then missing out by one miss. His 2.20m performance also left him on the outside looking in for the Olympic Trials by one centimeter. In spite of the incredible successes Huyler has had in winning both the Indoor and Outdoor Heps Championships, there is plenty of motivation for the upcoming year. He has tremendous potential and continued improvements in his approach and concentration on the key ingredients to big jumps this year could put him in position to put the Cornell records out of sight and move him among the truly elite in collegiate high jumping and score at the NCAA Championships.

At Marlboro: Huyler was the state champion in the high jump as a junior at Marlboro HS. He had a leap of 6-9.

Personal: Garrett James Huyler is the son of Duncan and Erica Huyler.
