Biography
At Cornell: Erik continued his meteoric rise as one of the Ivy League’s best throwers. His hard work and dedication to his training and technique enabled him to be Cornell’s top thrower last year. Indoors, he recorded the farthest throw in the Ivy League last year in the 35-lb. weight as he improved to over than 64 feet in winning his first Heps championship. His throw of 64-5 1/4 ranks him fourth all-time and was a provisional NCAA qualifier. He finished third in the Heps shot put and was an IC4A qualifier indoors in both the weight and shot, the latter throwing 55-11 3/4, fourth all-time. Outdoors, Roneker was an NCAA regional qualifier in both the hammer (194-4, sixth all-time) and the shot put (55-5 1/4, seventh all-time). In addition, he was an IC4A qualifier and a Heps scorer in the hammer, where he finished third, the shot, where he finished second, and the discus. His rapid improvement and contribution to the team earned him two additional honors as he was voted the team’s top weight man and was elected one of the team captains for the 2009 season. Given his attention to detail and his dedication to his training, look for Roneker to make an even greater impact on the team and the league in 2009.
At Groton: Roneker was a two-year member of the high school varsity, qualifying for the state indoor championships in the shot put. He was also a member of the high school golf and bowling team. His high school PR’s were 47’8 shot put and 143’ discus.
Personal: Erik Ralph Roneker is the son of Karl and Carol Roneker and he has a brother, Keith who also attended Cornell.
