2008-09 Men's Track and Field Roster
Biography
At Cornell: One of the most talented and versatile runners in Cornell history, Wyner returns for the 2009 track seasons after a semester away from school. Wyner has been a force in the conference and has set records since his freshman year. He owns individual school records in the indoor 800m (1:51.22) and 1,000m (2:24.58) and outdoor 800m (1:48.64), and has been a part of three school record relays – the indoor 4x800m (7:26.74), the outdoor DMR (9:33.32) and the 4xMile (16:29.21). He has won the indoor Heps title in the 800m and has four runner-up finishes in individual conference track events, three on relays and one in cross-country. He has run the fastest leg on each of Cornell’s 4x800m teams that won five consecutive IC4A titles. His time of 24:32 for the historic Van Cortlandt Park 8k course ranks as the second-best performance in Cornell history at that site. Wyner’s return to the Big Red track team should provide an enormous boost to the strong middle distance group, which is already a major presence in the conference and nationally-competitive in the long relays.
At Mainland Regional: Wyner captured the group championship in both the 800m and 1,600m before winning the Meet of Champions in the 1,600m. He had high school bests of 1:53.09 for 800m and 4:11.49 for 1,600m.
Personal: James Michael Wyner is the only child of Jim and Ann Wyner.
