Biography

Senior Season - 2010
Sumpio appeared in 15 games as a senior, earning seven starts up top for the Big Red. He started each of the team's first four games, and closed out his career with starts in the final two home games of the season. In between, he found himself in the starting 11 for the 1-1 draw with Harvard on Oct. 9.

Junior Season - 2009
Sumpio made the full time transition to forward as a junior and produced a pair of goals and two assists for six points, good enough to tie him for fourth on the team in scoring. He appeared in 15 matches, starting 12 of those, and had a multi-point game in the 2-1 win against Long Island, picking up a goal and an assist against the Blackbirds. Sumpio scored the season's first goal in the loss at Syracuse in the season opener, then added his strike against Long Island. He also picked up an assist on the Big Red's goal in a 1-1 draw with Princeton on Oct. 31. Sumpio was also named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District I selection for his work in the classroom.

Sophomore Season - 2008
Sumpio made 13 appearances as a sophomore, including one start in the season opener at California on Sept. 5. He recorded a pair of shots in that game, and then came off the bench in the remaining 12 appearances he made.

Freshman Season - 2007
Sumpio tallied two goals and two assists in his freshman campaign, including the game-winning goal in the Sept. 23 victory over Vermont at Berman Field. He made his collegiate debut in the season opener against Kentucky, then made his first collegiate start two days later against IUPUI. He scored his first career goal in the Sept. 7 win over Albany. For his first season, Sumpio appeared in 16 of the Big Red's 17 games, making five starts.

At The Hopkins School
An all-state and all-area selection as a junior at The Hopkins School, Sumpio was named to the Western New England Prep School Soccer Association’s All-Star Team after scoring 30 goals and leading his team to a 14-2 record. He scored 24 goals as a junior, and finished his four-year high school career with 77 goals and 186 points to break the school’s career goals and points records. He played his club soccer with Oakwood FC, helping them to the finals of the last two Connecticut State Cups, winning the championship in 2005.

Personal
Brett Sumpio is the son of Bauer and Catherine Sumpio. He has an older sister and a younger brother. Sumpio is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
