At Cornell
A consensus third-team FCS All-American (Associated Press, Phil Steele, College Sports Madness) and a first-team All-Ivy League receiver in 2011, Savage led the Ivy League in receptions (65), receiving yards (1080) and receiving touchdowns (12). He finished fifth nationally in yards per game and 13th in receptions per game while setting school records for season yards and touchdowns. Savage averaged 123 yards per game in league games (860 yards) with nine touchdowns in seven contests. His 12 touchdowns ranks sixth all-time in a season in Ivy history, and his three touchdowns against both Columbia and Penn tied a school record. A first-team Capital One Academic All-District selection, Savage posted four 100-yard games in 2011 and had four contests with multiple touchdowns. He had 199 receiving yards vs. Columbia, the second-highest total in a game in Cornell history, and posted a reception in all 10 games, extending his streak to 30 straight contests. Savage led the team with 46 catches for 550 yards and two touchdowns in 2010, his second season as a starter. Savage scored touchdowns against Ivy leaders Harvard and Penn. He also caught a two-point conversion vs. Harvard. He ranked among the top 100 nationally in receptions per game and receiving yards per game and had six games with five catches or more. Savage hauled in eight passes for 104 yards at Brown and caught seven balls for 80 yards against Yale. Savage established himself as one of the top playmaking slot receivers in the Ancient Eight as a sophomore in 2009 after hauling in 42 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns. He ranked second on the team behind All-Ivy receiver Bryan Walters in every receiving category. Savage had at least five catches in five different contests, including eight receptions against both Fordham and Brown. He hauled in a touchdown in his first career varsity contest, part of a five-catch, 49-yard day in a win over Bucknell. He also scored against Harvard. Savage posted a career-high 90-yard effort in the air against the Fordham Rams. After missing his rookie campaign with an injury, Savage had his coming out party in the 2009 Spring Game, catching six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown for the victorious Red team. He possesses great hands and runs good routes, and his quickness and burst make him elusive in the open field. Savage is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
At Flint Hill School
A two-way starter at the Flint Hill School, Savage served as team captain as a senior and earned second-team all-state honors at receiver. A first-team all-league, all-city and all-area pick, Savage hauled in 28 passes for 550 yards and five touchdowns while piling up 200 rushing yards and another score. Defensively, Savage had five interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, and blocked eight kicks in leading the school to its second-straight league crown and a spot in the state semifinals. That came on the heels of the Flint Hill School’s first league title in 50 years during his junior season when he was first-team all-conference and all-city, as well as honorable mention all-state. He ended the year with 24 catches for 520 yards and 10 scores, while intercepting five passes and blocking six kicks, with two returned for touchdowns. As a sophomore at Bishop O’Connell HS, he was named honorable mention all-conference after intercepting six passes.
