2010-11
Schreiner wrestled for the Big Red at the Binghamton Open at 157 pounds, earning a victory over Nick Terdick of Hofstra. He also competed at the Body Bar Invitational at 165 pounds.

2009-10
Schreiner competed in four tournaments and four Ivy League duals, going 4-13 on the season. His win over Brian Tracy of Brown helped the team clinch a share of its eighth straight Ivy title. Schreiner opened the campaign with three straight victories at the Binghamton Open, including a pair of major decision triumphs and two wins over league foes. He also wrestled at the Body Bar Invitational, the Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle.

2008-09
Schreiner wrestled for the Big Red at 149 pounds at the Binghamton Open as a freshman. He moved to 165 pounds for the Edinboro Open, and dropped down to 157 pounds to compete for Cornell in duals against Brown and Harvard.

Prior to Cornell
Schreiner is a three-time Minnesota state champion at 112, 119 and 140 pounds. He was a six-time letter winner at Wayzata HS, and served as captain his last two seasons. Schreiner was named all-conference four times and is a three-time section champion. In 2006 he was the NHSCA sophomore national champion at 112 pounds, and was named to the Clash V all-tournament team at 119 pounds. Schreiner was a member of the National Honor Society and was named to the MCWA and Guillotine academic all-state first-teams.

Personal
Derek John Schreiner is the son of John and Lisa Schreiner and has an older sister. He is studying applied economics and management in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
