As a Senior (2012-13)
Imbesi closed out her Big Red career in terrific fashion, advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin. Imbesi got there by breaking her own school record at the NCAA East Regoinal in Greensboro, N.C., with a throw of 159' 6" to place seventh in the event. Earlier in the season, Imbesi won the shot put at the Indoor Heps, placed fifth in the shot put at the Indoor ECACs and won the Eastern section of the event at the Penn Relays. Also outdoors, Imbesi won the shot put and javelin at the Outdoor Heps while also placing seventh in the discus to earn the meet's Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer honor. At the Outdoor ECACs, Imbesi won the javelin was placed fifth in the shot put. She leaves Cornell holding the outdoor shot put and javelin records and also the indoor shot put record which she set at the Indoor Heps. At the team's year-end banquet, Imbesi won the "Jinky" Crozier award as the team's MVP, the Blanford Award as the athlete who accumulated the most points over a four-year career and the Dr. George Ladas Award as the team's best thrower.
As a Junior (2011-12)
Imbesi's junior year started off great as she claimed the indoor Ivy League title in the shot put with a throw of 49' 3" to also break the school's indoor record. She followed that with a second-place showing at the Indoor ECACs, reaching 49' 2 1/2" and scoring big points for Cornell in its first-place finish. Imbesi's outdoor javelin efforts were terrific as well, as she took ninth at the Penn Relays in the championship section. At Outdoor Heps, Imbesi again claimed the shot put title with a throw of 49' 3 3/4" to break the school record, and she scored six points in a third-place javelin hurl of 146' 4". At the Outdoor ECACs, Imbesi was 12th in the shot and 13th in the javelin. Her great year set up a berth in the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., in the shot put and the javelin. She won Cornell's Dr. George Ladas Award , given to the school's best thrower.
As a Sophomore (2010-11)
Imbesi began her sophomore year with a bang. She just missed the indoor school record in the shot put by 2 ½ inches with a throw of 47’ ¾” (14.34m) to take third at the indoor Heptagonal/Ivy League Championships. She then went on to place sixth at the Indoor ECAC Championships in the same event. Heading into the outdoor season, Imbesi had a phenomenal start and set the school record in the first meet of the season in the javelin with a throw of 153’6 ¼” (46.80m). After a promising start, Imbesi had to take the rest of season off due to a shoulder injury. She was voted most outstanding thrower at Cornell the second year in a row by her teammates for 2011, even though she missed the majority of the season. Imbesi is currently ranked No. 1 on the Cornell All-Time list in the javelin, tied for No. 2all time in the Indoor shot, and No. 6 all time in the outdoor shot.
As a Freshman (2009-10)
Imbesi had an outstanding freshman year at Cornell, making an immediate impact in both the Ivy League and the Eastern Region. She began her outdoor season by setting the school record in the javelin with a throw of 149’ on her first college throw ever. She was competitive in the shot, disc, and javelin throughout the season and ended on a high note by winning the outdoor Heptagonal/Ivy League Championships in the Javelin, giving her a First-Team Ivy League title. She also qualified for the Regional Track & Field Championships and upset nine girls to take 11th and advance on to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. This made her the first ever freshman thrower to advance to the NCAA Championships for Cornell. For her 2010 season, she was voted the most outstanding freshman for Cornell track and field, as well as the most outstanding thrower.
Before Cornell
Imbesi was a highly decorated athlete at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, where she was the 2007, 2008, and 2009 New Jersey State Non-Public B Champion in the javelin and set a new state record in 2009. She was also the New Jersey State Non-Public B Champion in the discus, setting a new state record in that event and claiming runner up in the shot put in 2009. Imbesi earned a total of three All-American titles in the javelin while in high school. In 2007 she earned two of these titles; one from the National Elite Youth All American Championships and the other from the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics. She gained her third All-American title in the javelin when she placed fourth at the Nike Nationals in 2009. She finished fourth in the javelin at the Penn Relays in 2009 and was undefeated in the javelin during her 2008 and 2009 seasons in the state of New Jersey. Imbesi was the NJ MOC Champion in 2009 in the Discus. She was also named the
Vineland Daily Journal's track athlete of the year. Imbesi was the MVP in the field events at the Woodbury Relays in 2009 and also held the title of team MVP for the 2009 season for the Our Lady of Mercy Academy, where she also captained her track and field team both her junior and senior years.
Personal
Victoria Chiara Imbesi is the daughter of Mark and Marianne Imbesi. She has an older brother and sister, Anthony and Ali. Anthony graduated from Bucknell and was a member of the men’s crew team and is currently attending Villanova Law School. Ali is an alumnus of Villanova and competed on the women’s rowing team and is currently studying at Drexel for her graduate degree in interior design. Imbesi is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
