Biography

At Cornell
At the beginning of last year Coach Taylor designated Huber as the sleeper within the incoming freshman class. Following the prediction to a tee, Huber awoke and quickly became a giant on the Cornell squad. He spent the fall and beginning of the indoor season training as a decathlete where progress was painfully slow. Running the 400 in a late season indoor meet Huber showed promise running 49.10. He followed that up with a 49.00 and kept improving all the way to a HEPS title in the 400 running 48.22 which is also 3rd on the All-Time indoor list. He also anchored the 4x400 relay to victory in addition to finishing 5th in the 60m HH. He capped of a meteoric freshman indoor season running the 400 leg on the Distance Medley Relay team that qualified for the NCAA Championships and established an All-Time Ivy League indoor record of 9:35.13. The indoor season boded well for outdoors but it’s a long year for freshmen and Huber showed signs of fatigue. In spite of this he rallied for the big meets anchoring a Penn Relays 4x400 Championship and #4 All-Time with a 46.7 split. He came back a week later to finish 3rd at the HEPS in the 110HH in 14.66 which is 9th All-Time and a shocking 1st in the 400IH in 51.60 only to be disqualified for a trail leg violation. Following exams two weeks later Nick ran 52.56 (#10 AT) at the IC4A’s narrowly missing the NCAA Regional standard by .06. An exceptional competitor who hates to lose, Huber was hands down the 2009 Cornell Freshman of the Year.

Huber had the best season of his career as a senior, a year where he was one of the team's co-captains. The excellent athleticism began at the Indoor Heps, where he took first place in the heptathlon with 5,446 points. He did the same at the Indoor IC4As the following weekend, scoring 5,373 points to again claim the heptathlon title. At the Outdoor Heps, Huber was fourth in the 110 hurdles, fifth in the high jump and again claimed a title by winning the decathlon with a school-record 7,632 points. By virtue of that performance, he earned a spot at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, where he placed 11th in the country, ending his career on an incredible high note. Huber will leave Cornell as the school record holder in the pentathlon (3,707), heptathlon (5,550) and decathlon (7,632). He also has the fourth-best 60 hurdles time (8.24s) in school history.

Before Cornell
Huber took third place at the Indiana state championships in the 300m hurdles as a senior and holds six track and field school records. He also played basketball in addition to his track and field exploits, earning four letters as a guard.
