The breakthrough finally came as a sophomore, as Jakobson finished his outdoor season with a 1:54.42 800m to lower his personal record by over 1.5 seconds. The following year, Jakobson picked up where he left off, running 1:54.93 in January, followed by a 1:53.50 personal record at the Armory. Chris had a difficult outdoor season after a strong start indoors, but still managed to run 1:53.95 at home in April, and ran a 1:52.9 4x800 split at the IC4A meet to finish the year.

As a senior, Jakobson ran the first leg of Cornell's second-place 4x800 relay at the Indoor Heps, helping to score eight points for the team. He also ran the 800 at thet Indoor IC4As, taking 29th in the preliminaries. But also in that meet, Jakobson ran the first leg of the 4x800, this time a first-place finish for the Big Red. He ran in the Penn Relays' distance medley relay, a group that took sixth thanks to his 800-meter section. His is part of the indoor 4x800 team that holds the school record at 7:24.08.
