Biography

At Cornell
Two years in the shadows of Ray Taylor and Muhammad Halim, Cornell’s two consecutive NCAA Champions in the triple jump, gave Teixeira time to mature and hone his skills for what looked to be a promising year. An injury at the beginning of the season really side-tracked his indoor season but he responded when it counted most to win his first HEPS title in the Long Jump and his highest place to date in the triple jump. As his recovery continued his jumping improved. Only a 22’6 jumper in high school Duane leaped to a story book performance at the Outdoor HEPS winning the long jump by over a foot at 24’4 and then powering to a 51’6 triple jump to win the Athlete of the Meet award. At the NCAA Regionals he nearly matched his best long jump of the year at 24’10 to finish second and secure a spot at the NCAA Championships at Arkansas. Teixeira made the most of his NCAA opportunity by jumping an inspired 24’10 missing his pr by a mere 1cm. A two time Academic All-American, Teixeira will serve as a team captain in 2010. As an athlete pound for pound he’s the strongest athlete on the team and never cuts corners. Teixeira stands at #3 in the LJ and #6 in the Triple Jump on the All-Time Cornell record lists. He has a shot at becoming the greatest long jumper in Cornell history as a senior and is shooting for 25’6 in the LJ and 53’ in the TJ as well as returning to the NCAA Championships keeping the tradition of Cornell NCAA Finalist’s in the jumps alive.

Before Cornell
Teixeira was a state champion in the high jump and also scored in the long jump and triple jump. He was also a four-time league all-star and served as team captain as a senior.

Personal
Duane Makoto Teixeira is the son of David and Hiromi Teixeira and has an older brother who ran at MIT. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
