Biography

At Cornell
Marcel as a co-captain in 2009 led the Big Red Team through hard work and dedication, day in and day out, to both Indoor and Outdoor Ivy League Championships. van Eeden was 2nd in the 400m Indoor. He led the 4x400m to a championship win at the Ivy League Championship Indoor at Harvard University. For Outdoor season, van Eeden captured 3rd in the 400m. He also led the 4x400m to a 2nd place finish at the Outdoor Ivy League Championship. At Penn Relays, Marcel led the 4x400m team to a Heptagonal win in 3:10.65. A hamstring injury forced him to miss the outdoor season as a freshman so Marcel will return for a 5th season and expects to help Cornell capture another Ivy League Championship Outdoors. During his first 3 years he’s been an incredibly consistent scorer and lead-off runner for the relay. He currently stands # 2 All-Time indoors at 47.94 and #5 Outdoors at 47.37. He also has a best in the 800 of 1:52.87 and has been the lead-off for 7 top 10 AT 4x400s and Cornell School Record, Ivy League Record and NCAA Qualifying squad that ran 3:10.19 indoors in 2008.  He’s been All-Ivy and All East 6 different times in his career. Marcel has been a key player helping Cornell tie the record this year but hopes to help Cornell with a record-breaking 8th straight winning Ivy League Championship season.

Before Cornell
A two-sport star, van Eeden was named the conference’s defensive player of the year as a senior at West Morris Medham HS. He was a first-team all-league selection for the 10-1 league champions and earned recognition on the New Jersey Football Coaches Association Super 100 list. As a senior, van Eeden posted 56 tackles, including seven for loss, with five sacks and two interceptions. He also blocked three punts. On the track, van Eeden was ranked among the top five runners nationally in the 600 meters and has posted a 48.60 for 400 meters.

Personal
Marcel Jevan van Eeden is the son of Jaco van Eeden and has two younger sisters. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
