As a Senior (2013-14)Roach was again one of the Big Red’s top participants in the vault in his senior season. He finished 3
rd at the Indoor Heps with a clearance at 16’ 0.75”. The following week he wrapped up the indoor season at the IC4A’s, again snagging 3
rd place while posting an indoor season best clearance of 17’ 2.75”. He had trouble getting things going in the outdoor season, however, Roach rounded into form at the Outdoor Heps. He posted a clearance at 15’ 9” to take 4
th place. The following week he posted a career best clearance of 17’ 4.5” to grab 2
nd place at the Outdoor IC4A’s. He concluded his Big Red career at the NCAA East Prelims, converting at 16’ 5.5” to finish 34
th.
As a Junior (2012-13)Roach continued as one of the Big Red's top pole vaulters during his third year with the team. He competed at the Penn Relays in late April, taking sixth place with a clearance of 15' 7". He then went to the Outdoor Heps, taking fourth place and scoring four points for Cornell. At the Outdoor IC4As, Roach placed 14th in the pole vault. He then advanced to the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., where he placed 30th with a clearance of 16' 3/4".
As a Sophomore (2011-12)Roach had a fantastic sophomore campaign, tying for fourth place at the Indoor Heps to begin the year. His height of 15' 9" was good enough to get him to the Indoor IC4As, where he took fourth in the pole vault and scored five points for Cornell by reaching 16' 2 3/4". At the Penn Relays, Roach was fourth place in the college section, again reaching the IC4A-qualifying height of 15' 9". Roach was terrific at the Outdoor Heps, winning his first Ivy League title with a top vault of 16' 9 1/2". He took fifth at the IC4A Outdoors and then earned a trip to the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. There, he took 22nd with a school record 16' 11 1/2", just missing qualification for the NCAA Championships. Indoors, his top vault of 16' 4 3/4" is tied for the fourth-best vault in school history. Roach was named the Fleet Morse Award winner at the end of the season for being the most improved field athlete at Cornell.
As a Freshman (2010-11)After beginning his freshman year with the second highest vault of his career, Roach continued his first indoor season strongly at the beginning. He suffered a concussion but eventually reclaimed the familiar height of 15'9'' and continued to the outdoor season with most meet performances over 15'. He tied his high school personal record of 15'11'' but has yet to break the plane of 16'. With a disappointing finish of 7th at the Outdoor HEPS, Roach is ready to start up another season and rediscover his vault consistency which will help him soar to new heights.
Before CornellRoach was third in the pole vault at the Indiana state meet as a senior after winning regional, sectional and conference championships. He helped his team to a regional title as a junior and picked up three straight conference and sectional championships. A two-time field event most valuable performer, Roach served as team captain as a senior.
PersonalPeter Michael Roach is the son of Terry and Carol Roach and has an older sister and two older brothers. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
