Biography
At Cornell
Barker rowed as a member of the third varsity eight during his junior season, helping the crew to win a gold medal at the 2012 EARC Sprints. During the regular season, the third varsity eight earned victories over Harvard, Penn, Princeton, Yale and Dartmouth. Barker won a gold medal at 2010 Eastern Sprints as a member of the Big Red’s freshman eight crew.
At. St. Joseph’s Preparatory School
Barker rowed for four years at St. Joseph’s Prep, earning one varsity letter. He helped his crew to a finalist finish at the 2009 SRAA Nationals, as well as a silver medal at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta that same year. Barker won three-straight gold medals at the Philadelphia City Championships from 2007-09, and was a finalist at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in 2008.
Personal
Garrett William Barker is the son of Bill and Anne Barker and he has a younger brother and a younger sister. His father played basketball for Catholic University, while his mother played tennis for the University of Richmond. His uncle Joe Iacone played football for West Chester University before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1963. His cousins Maria Albano Coladonato and Gregory Coladonato graduated from Cornell in 1992 and 1993, respectively. Barker is enrolled in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning.
