Biography
Junior Season - 2010
Murphy continued her progression as a top-level shot-stopper in 2010, leading the Big Red to a 4-2 record in her six starts and posting career bests in goals-against average and save percentage. She allowed just five goals in six games, while recording a 0.94 goals-against average and a .800 save percentage with a pair of shutouts. Murphy made a season-best eight saves in the 2-0 loss to Seton Hall on Sept. 12. Through three seasons with the Big Red, Murphy ranks ninth all-time in career goals-against average and tied for ninth in wins, while ranking 10th in shutouts.
Sophomore Season - 2009
Murphy made nine starts on the season, picking up a win and a draw to go along with seven defeats on the year. She shared the team co-most valuable player honors with fellow goaltender Megan Bartlett. Murphy stopped six shots in the season opener against Binghamton to pick up her second career clean sheet, and then added another when the Big Red blanked Colgate on Sept. 16 at Berman Field. She recorded a season-high six saves on three separate occasions on the season, including in the first half at Lehigh and again in a full 90 minutes on Sept. 18 against William & Mary.
Freshman Season - 2008
Murphy made seven appearances as a freshman, earning the starting nod in goal five times. She posted a team season-high 13 saves in securing the Big Red's 2-0 win at Brown on Oct. 26 for her first career shutout. Murphy made her collegiate debut in the loss to Central Michigan on Sept. 7, then got her first career start on Sept. 14 against Lehigh, making eight saves on nine shots. For the year, she had a .807 save percentage and a 2.23 goals-against average.
Before Cornell
Murphy led her team to three league championships during her high school career, being named a two-time league all-star as a junior and a senior. She helped her team to the quarterfinals of the state tournament in 2006 and was named team captain for her senior season. Murphy was also selected to the New Hampshire and Massachusetts State Olympic Development Program teams and was a three-year Region I Super-Y and two-time Super-Y National pool player. Her team won the U.S. Club Regional and National Championships in 2007. Murphy also competed in track and field at Duxbury, advancing to the state finals of the indoor shot put in 2007.
Personal
Kelly Corinne Murphy is the daughter of Chris and Karen Murphy, and she has an older sister and a younger brother. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell.
