One of the most underrated players in the conference over her final three seasons, Sanders finally got the recognition she deserved with a second-team All-Ivy selection as a senior. She was the stalwart of a defensive unit that has allowed the second fewest goals in the conference play (11) during the 2010 season. A player that rarely got beat or called for a foul, she was a key component of a back line that has allowed its opponents just 6.06 penalty corners per game and just 10.2 shots per game. A four-year letter winner, she played in all but two games during her career and started every contest since the beginning of her sophomore season, playing nearly every minute of every game during that span.

At Maine Endwell HS
A defender, Sanders lettered four times and was a four-time Section IV first-team all-star at Maine Endwell HS, where she led the Spartans to a Class B state championship in 2004. Sanders was also a two-time recipient of the all-state award and was a regional All-America selection in 2006. She was on the USFHA U19 CNY team for two years, earning a silver medal at the national championships in 2005. As the team co-captain, Sanders led the Central team to a silver medal in the 2006 New York State Empire Games after earning a silver medal in 2005 and a gold medal in 2004. She lettered four times in lacrosse and was a first-team Section IV all-star goalkeeper, leading Maine Endwell to the 2005 sectional championship.

Personal
Stephanie Lorraine Sanders is the daughter of Greg and Lisa Sanders and has three sisters. Her twin sister, Sara, also plays on the Big Red field hockey team. She is enrolled in College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
