As a Senior (2013-14)Simpson finished her senior campaign with a strong finish, running to 129th place at the NCAA Championships with a 6K time of 21:29.4. Her earlier finishes include 5th place at the meet against Army, 29th place at the Boston College Invitational, 29th at the Paul Short Gold run, 168th at the Wisconsin Invitational, and a strong 14th place finish at the Ivy League/Heptagonal Championships with a 6K time of 21:13.8.
Simpson followed a solid conclusion to her cross country career with another fine season on the track. She continued to participate in the distance races, marking new personal best in the 3000, 5000, and 10,000. She kicked off her run of personal bests at the UCR Spring Break Invitational, posting a 9:57.56 in a 3
rd place finish. Her best 10,000 came at the Stanford Invitational where she marked a 34:38.32 to finish 17
th. Her career best 5000 came the following week at the Larry Ellis Invitational, where she posted a 16:37.22 to finish 14
th. At the Outdoor Heps, she placed 9
th in the 10,000 and 17
th in the 5000. She concluded her career at the NCAA East Prelims, posting a 43
rd place finish in the 10,000.
As a Junior (2012-13)Simpson's junior campaign began with a 19th-place showing at the Army-Binghamton tri-meet, and she followed that with a 28th-place finish at the Yellowjacket Invitational. At the Paul Short Open Race, she placed 18th. Later in the year at the Princeton Invitational, Simpson took 26th overall and scored third for Cornell. Her year concluded with an 11th-place showing at the John Reif Memorial Run.
Simpson set personal bests in three events during the track season, topping her previous marks in the mile, the 3K and the 10K. She Ran a 5:21.15 mile at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational in February, a 10:11.95 3K at the Binghamton-Buffalo tri-meet in April and a 37:09.91 10K at the Big Red Invite in April. Simpson qualified for the Outdoor ECACs in the 10K where she placed 17th in 37:24.89.
As a Sophomore (2011-12)Simpson took 22nd place at the Binghamton-Army tri-meet, finished 31st at the Colgate Invitational and finished a season-best ninth at the open race of the Paul Short Invitational. She concluded her year with a 16th place at the Yellowjacket Invitational.
As a Freshman (2010-11)Despite being sidelined by mononucleosis during her freshman cross country season, Liz quickly demonstrated that she is a top distance runner, showing steady improvement throughout the track season and coming within just a few seconds of the ECAC standards during outdoor track.
Before CornellAn all-state performer in both cross country and track, Elizabeth was one of Pennsylvania’s best throughout her high school career and has run 10:08 for 3K and 10:45 for 3200.
PersonalElizabeth Simpson is the daughter of James and Cynthia Simpson and has a younger sister. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
