Biography

As a Senior (2011-12)
Arlinghaus took third at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships in the high jump, leaping 6' 11". He followed that with a ninth-place performance at the Indoor IC4As the following week, reaching 6' 8 1/4". Outdoors, Arlinghaus again took third in the high jump, this time reaching 6' 9 1/2". Outdoors at the IC4As, Arlinghaus was terrific with a fourth-place finish to score five points for the Big Red. His jump of 6' 10 3/4" is the eighth-best indoor jump ever at Cornell. Outdoors, his best of 7' 1/4" puts him fifth in school history.

As a Junior (2010-11)
With a taste of success and what it takes to be a champion athlete, Chris dedicated himself in the weight room and to the training entering his junior year; and his hard work paid off. Indoors he jumped a personal best of 2.09 meters and placed 2nd at the HEPS jumping 2.07 meters. The outdoor season held even more in store, as Chris jumped 2.12 meters at the HEPS, placing second. He finished in the top six at the IC4A's, and qualified for NCAA Regionals, where he jumped 2.11 meters missing Nationals by one height. With continued hard work and being a student of the sport, Chris has a chance to end his career as one of Cornell's all time best high jumpers.

As a Sophomore (2009-10)
After jumping only 2.00 meters his first year, Chris came into his sophomore season with a focused mind set and a more matured body to the college training. He saw his first big breakthrough late in the indoor season, jumping a personal best of 2.07 meters at one of Cornell's home meets, placing him ninth in school history. Chris repeated his success two weeks later at the Indoor HEPS and placed third, scoring his first career team points. At the IC4A's he jumped 2.05m and placed fourth. The outdoor season saw similar success as indoors, as Chris placed fifth at the HEPS and made the 2010 UK Tour Team.

As a Freshman (2008-09)
Following in the footsteps of his brother who was a HEPS champion in the steeplechase, the pressure to succeed was there as soon as Arlinghaus stepped on campus. With a high jump team that fielded the school record holder and two HEPS scorers, his freshman year was a year of breaking down bad habits and learning new, and correct, techniques; as well as insight and knowledge from the jumpers ahead of him.

Before Cornell
Arlinghaus was a district champion and earned first-team all-conference honors as a senior after taking the district crown and second-team all-league nods as a junior. He also served as team captain during his senior season. A three-sport star, Arlinghaus also played basketball, earning first-team all-league honors twice, and soccer, where he was first-team all-conference and All-Greater Cleveland and third team all-state.

Personal
Christopher Gordon Arlinghaus is the son of Skip and Danette Arlinghaus and has two brothers and a sister. His brother Aaron ran track for the Big Red from 2005-2008. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
