Biography
As a Senior (2011-12)
Dean was a co-captain in his final year with the Big Red, and he took part in all 20 rounds that Cornell played. Dean's 79.7 average as a senior ranked sixth on the team, and his best round came in the Big 5 Invitational when he shot a two-over-par 72 on Oct. 9. His Big Red career came to a close when he tied for 39th at the Ivy League Championship.
At Cornell
Dean was in the starting lineup in six of eight tournaments in 2010-11, averaging 77.73 over his 15 rounds. He posted a career-low score of 72 in the second round of the Big Red Invitational, part of a 73-72 start over the first day. Dean was in the lineup for four tournaments, including at the Ivy League championship, as a freshman in 2009-10. He was the third low scorer at the conference championship, highlighted by a season-low 73 in the second round at historic Baltusrol Golf Course.
Prior to Cornell
Dean was a four-year member of both the golf and squash team at St. Sebastian's School. The two-time all-league selection was elected team captain as a senior.
Personal
John Rutledge Dean is the son of Phillip and Deborah Dean and has an older brother and younger sister. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
