At Cornell
Junior Emily Dean continued her impressive Big Red career last year, turning in some excellent times and continuing to move her name up on the Cornell record books. Dean was part of the school-record setting 200 and 400 medley relay teams, while her 55.39 in the 100 backstroke last year was good for second all-time in the Cornell record books, and her times in the 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly placed her in the fourth spot in both categories on the all-time list as well. As well as reaching the finals in the 200 backstroke at the Ivy championships, Dean also had valuable wins in both the 100 and 200 backstroke vs. Columbia and Brown.
Prior to Cornell
Emily Dean was a four-time letter recipient for Mount de Sales Academy. During her four years, she was among the most accomplished swimmers in her school's history. She owns the MDS team record in the 100 back, 100 fly, 200 medley relay, and 400 free relay. She also was named Swim Team MVP in each of her four years, and she was honored with the title of captain during her junior season. Emily was named Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland for swimming (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008). She was also a member of the Retriever Aquatic Club where she was named USA Swimming Scholastic All-American (2006, 2007, 2008).
Personal
Emily Patricia Dean is the daughter of Steven and Therese Dean, and she has a younger and an older brother. She is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
