At Cornell
2010-11:
Meagher earned a second NCAA tournament bid in a successful 24-8 season for the Big Red at 157 pounds. He began the campaign on a high note by winning the title at the Binghamton Open with five victories.  He defeated eventual All-American Walter Peppelman in the finals.  Meagher opened the dual season with a 6-1 triumph over Eric Cubberly of Central Michigan and then had a strong showing at the Las Vegas Invitational where he injury defaulted to sixth place after recording a 5-1 record with a pin and two majors.  He was a significant contributor to the Cornell National Duals championship, going 3-1 with a pivotal bonus point win over Joe Grygelko in the close semifinal victory over Minnesota. Meagher compiled a 4-1 mark in Ancient Eight competition to notch Second Team All-Ivy status.  At the EIWA tournament, he went 4-2, including two majors and a 9-3 win over Peppelman to garner fourth place and earn an NCAA bid.  At Nationals, Meagher’s two losses were to All-Americans, top-seeded Adam Hall of Boise State and Peppelman, in a heartbreaking finish. He defeated Aaron Sulzer of Eastern Michigan in his second bout.  

2009-10: Meagher went 2-2 with a win by fall as a junior before missing the rest of the season with an injury. He reached the semifinals of the Body Bar Invitational after opening the season with a dual match appearance against Maryland.

2008-09: Meagher received an at-large bid from the NCAA to qualify for his first national tournament. Heading into nations, he ranked 22nd at 149 pounds by the Wrestling Report with a 14-10 record. He finished the season, 14-12. Meagher notched an 8-4 dual record and was named second-team All-Ivy with a 3-1 mark against conference opponents. With three wins by fall, he earned bonus points in seven matches. Meagher wrestled for the Big Red at the Penn State Invitational and Southern Scuffle. At the National duals, he opened with a 7-4 win over Michigan’s Mark Beaudry.

2007-08: Meagher opened his rookie campaign placing second at the Brute Binghamton Open, and by taking third at the Body Bar Invitational at 149 pounds. At the New York State Championships, Meagher placed sixth after winning his first two matches, but medical forfeited out of the tournament due to injury. Meagher pinned Hofstra’s Jeff Rotella in 4:27 to help Cornell pick up a dual win on Feb. 2. With a 3-2 record, Meagher was named honorable mention All-Ivy. At the EIWA tournament, he placed sixth.

Prior to Cornell
Meagher was a three-time New Hampshire state champion, wrestling at 130, 140, and 145 pounds. The two-time New Hampshire outstanding wrestler from Bow HS, is a two-time New England champion and was named New England’s outstanding wrestler his senior year. With an overall record of 164-9, Meagher was the captain of his team his junior and senior years. He placed sixth at the NHSCA senior nationals earning him All-American status. Meagher was the New Hampshire recipient of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. The award is presented annually to a high school senior based equally on outstanding wrestling success, scholastic achievement and citizenship or community service. Meagher also captained his lacrosse team his senior year and was named first-team all-state. A member of the National Honor Society, Meagher was vice president of his senior class.

Personal
Daniel Joseph Meagher is the son of Robert and Janet Meagher, and has a younger sister and older brother. His brother, Mike, wrestles at UNC Chapel Hill. Majoring in applied economics and management.
