At Cornell
2013-14: The 2014 EIWA champion had a banner season, finishing the campaign with a 34-4 record and making it to the All-America round at NCAAs. He earned his first EIWA title with a pair of majors and two decisions, including a 4-2 triumph over Lehigh’s Mitch Minotti in the final. Villalonga won the Binghamton Open and the New York State Intercollegiates and placed third at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and sixth at the Southern Scuffle. A unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection, Villalonga posted eight wins against top 20 opponents, including four against top 10 foes. He was outstanding at the National Duals, defeating No. 18 Zach Neibert (2-1) of Virginia Tech and No. 2 Kendric Maple (3-1)of Oklahoma in overtime decisions before losing to No. 3 Nick Dardanes of Minnesota on an overtime stall call, 5-4.
2012-13: Villalonga placed fourth at the EIWA championships to qualify for his second NCAA tournament. The Big Red junior medically defaulted out of his match for third place. Villalonga finished the season with a 23-13 record and eight bonus wins. At the Southern Scuffle, he went 4-2 to place fifth at 149 pounds, and he took sixth at the Las Vegas Invitational. With a 4-0 record against the Ancient Eight, Villalonga earned his second-straight second team All-Ivy honor this season. During tournament season, Villalonga placed sixth at the Las Vegas Invitational and fifth at the Southern Scuffle.
2011-12: Villalonga opened the season at 141 pounds, but moved up to earn a starting spot at 149 pounds. The Big Red sophomore went 5-0 to win the title at the Cleveland Open and took fifth at the Southern Scuffle, where he notched three-straight major decisions. Villalonga highlighted a solid season by defeating No. 8 Corey Jantzen, 1-0 in the Big Red’s dual against Harvard on Jan. 20. Villalonga was named second-team All-Ivy. He went 5-1 at the EIWA tournament to earn a bid to his first NCAA tournament. Villalonga earned The Russ Martin Award for Outstanding Freshman along with teammate Marshall Peppelman.
2010-11: Villalonga competed at 141 pounds for the Big Red, making the podium at the Body Bar Invitational, where he finished second, and at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, where he took eighth. He also wrestled at the Binghamton Open and the Southern Scuffle. Villalonga captured 11 wins, including four by bonus points (three falls and a major decision).
Prior to Cornell
Villalonga, ranked as one of the top four recruits in the nation, was one of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of the Blair program. He won the National Preps tournament four times and was a three-time winner (and four-time finalist) at the Beast of the East and Ironman events. Villalonga was selected to the Wrestling USA/Cliff Keen 2010 High School Dream Team as well as the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, where he was named Most Outstanding Wrestler. He capped off his 145-3 career by winning the NHSCA Senior Nationals at 140 pounds. He did not lose a match in his last three years of high school competition.
Personal
Christopher Matthew Villalonga is the son of Orlando and Jeanette Villalonga and has one sister. Villalonga is studying applied economics and management.
