As a Junior (2012-13)
Daniels ran for the Big Red in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle Championship section at Penn Relays, helping Cornell to a third-place finish. She also competed for the Big Red at the Outdoor Heps, scoring two points by placing fifth in the 100 hurdles in a personal-best 14.26 seconds.

As a Freshman (2010-11)
Coming to Cornell, Daniels had never set foot in an indoor track facility.  Her first indoor track season was successful for her in that she recorded Cornell Women’s 10th-fastest 60m hurdle time with her personal record of 9.00 in the Indoor Heptagonal Championships Preliminary.  As the outdoor season approached, the Southern California native looked forward to competing in familiar territory in the 100m hurdles, but the quick doubling of the indoor hurdle distance and the drastically cooler Ithaca spring proved more challenging to overcome than anticipated.  She finished her outdoor season in the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships Preliminary with a season-best time of 14.76.

Before Cornell
Daniels was a four-year varsity letterman and co-captain of her high school’s team her senior year.  She was primarily a double hurdler, competing in the 100m and 300m events regularly, and she was also part of her school’s current record-holding 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams.  In 2010, Zaakirah recorded California’s 23rd-fastest 100m hurdle time and her personal record  of 14.59, which is also Harvard-Westlake’s 100m hurdle record.  Her 300m hurdle personal best of 44.60 was No. 32 on California’s 2010 list.  Throughout her high school career, Daniels earned 10 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Division 3 Finals berths.  During her junior year, she was a quadruple CIF Finalist (4x100m, 4x400m, 100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles), a rare feat being that the maximum number of events one can participate in is four.  Daniels was privileged to be a part of the inaugural Nike Track Nationals in Eugene, Ore., in 2010 as Harvard-Westlake’s hurdle representative where she finished fourth with a time of 14.88.

Personal
Zaakirah Daniels is the oldest daughter of Michael and Rosalyn Daniels. Although she grew up in Burbank, Daniels now resides in Woodland Hills, Calif.  She is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology and is an active member of Shadows Dance Troupe and Urban Blaze Dance Team at Cornell.
