Shearer, who also runs mid-distance for the women's track team, started off the season with a 2nd place 5K finish at the meet against Army with a time of 18:00.6. At the Boston College Invitational, she was the second Big Red runner to cross the finish line, and 18th overall, with a time of 17:37.0. At the Paul Short Gold 6K, she ran to a 20:51.0 finish, good for 16th. Out of 288 runners at the Wisconsin Invitational, Shearer placed 36th with her best 6K time of the season (20:28.0). She concluded her Cornell cross country career with a 6th place finish at the Ivy League/Heptagonal Championships 6K with a time of 20:31.7.

Shearer followed a fantastic senior season in cross country with a solid final season on the track. She took home 1st place in the mile at the Cornell Southern Tier Collegiate Open. She marked a career best 1000 time of 2:52.83 to finish 3rd at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. At the Indoor Heps, she marked a 4th place finish in the mile and a 7th place finish in the 3000. She concluded her career with a career best 3000 of 9:11.68 to finish 1st at the Indoor ECAC’s.

As a Junior (2012-13)
Shearer had a tremendous cross country season, finishing in the top five for the Big Red in every race and taking second overall at the Heptagonal Championships. That finish -- which earned her First Team All-Ivy status -- helped the Big Red win its second straight Ivy League title and propelled it into the NCAA Northeast Regionals where the team took third and Shearer finished 15th. At the NCAA Championships, Shearer finished 140th as the Big Red went on to place 13th in the country. Shearer also placed seventh at the season-opening Army-Binghamton tri-meet, third at the Yellowjacket Invitational, ninth at the Paul Short Run and 38th at the Wisconsin Invitational. After the season, she was named a capain for the 2013 team.

Shearer ran a strong indoor season on the track, setting a new personal record in the mile and the 3K. She scored eight points for the Big Red with a run of 9:22.19 in the 3K at the Indoor Heps, and she also picked up six points in the mile run during the same event by placing third. Her personal best in the mile of 4:41.02 came at the SPIRE Invite in Cleveland, Ohio, in early February.

As a Sophomore (2011-12)
Shearer became an integral part of the cross country team during her sophomore season, placing third among the  Big Red at the Heptagonal Championships in 11th place overall and earning Second-Team All-Ivy honors. Shearer took third overall at the Army-Binghamton tri-meet, eighth at the Colgate Invitational, 38th at the Paul Short Invitational, 24th at Pre-Nationals and 33rd at the NCAA Northeast Regional. She claimed the most improved award at the end-of-year cross country banquet.

On the track, Shearer ran in the one-mile race and the 3K at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships, taking 19th and 16th in the preliminaries, respectively, to start her outdoor season. Her big breakout race, though, came at the Penn Relays. Running in the 3K, Shearer took second place and broke her personal record by 27 seconds (9:25.95). In the process, she broke the 21-year-old school record by three seconds. At the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships, Shearer took third place in the 1500, earning six points for the Big Red. She followed that with a fourth-place effort in the 3K to score a total of 10 points for Cornell. The next week at the Outdoor ECACs, Shearer took ninth place, missing a scoring place by just .03 seconds. She also won the school's Fleet Morse Award as the most improved athlete.

As a Freshman (2010-11)
Emmy got off to an impressive start in her first cross country season, contributing to the Big Red cause in the first half of the season.  Injury problems curtailed her track season, but she is looking forward to a healthy sophomore year and will look to make a difference in all three seasons.

Before Cornell
Shearer was a state finalist in the 1600m in California as a senior and was the NCS champion in the same event during the same season. She has run a personal best 4:55.98 in the 1600m and is also a very good cross country runner.

Personal
Emily Joy Shearer is the daughter of Alistair and Jeannette Shearer and has an older sister. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
