As a Junior (2013-14)
Potts ran three races this cross country season and was a top-five finisher for the Big Red at both the Pre-National Meet (24:55.2; 143rd overall, 2nd for Cornell) and at the Ivy League/Heptagonal Championships (24:44.5; 46th overall, 5th for Cornell). He also placed 45th at the Boston College Invitational.

On the track, Potts participated at five events in his third year. He took home the top spot in the mile with a time of 4:19.34 at the Deneault Memorial. He concluded his season at the Larry Ellis Invitational, marking a season best 1500 time of 3:55.05 to snag 43rd place.

As a Sophomore (2012-13)
Potts' sophomore season was as strong as his freshman campaign. He was the sixth Big Red racer across the finish line at the NCAA Northeast Regional just two weeks after being Cornell's sixth runner at Heps (41st overall). Potts began the season by winning the Army-Binghamton tri-meet as an individual, completing the eight-kilometer course in 24:09. Potts then placed as Cornell's top finisher and first overall at the Yellowjacket Invitational, winning races in back-to-back weeks. Potts was 46th at the Paul Short Run, finishing fourth among Big Red runners. His last race before the postseason, the Wisconsin Invitational, saw him take 259th overall and fifth among Cornell runners.

Potts improved on the track in his sophomore year, running on the Big Red's seventh-place DMR at the Indoor Heps while also taking 14th place as an individual in the 1000. At the Indoor IC4As, Potts ran 23rd in the mile with a run of 4:11.18. He has personal bests in the 1K, mile and 3K during the season.

As a Freshman (2011-12)
Potts made an immediate impact during his first year on East  Hill, running in both the Heptagonal Championships (fifth on Cornell, 31st overall) and at the NCAA Northeast Regionals (seventh on Cornell, 134th overall). Potts' freshman campaign started with an eighth-place showing at the Army-Binghamton tri-meet, and the next week he was placing 15th at the Colgate Invitational. He finished seventh among Big Red runners at the Paul Short Invitational, leading him into his excellent showings at Heps and Regionals. He won the Louis Montgomery Award as Cornell's best freshman.

On the track, Potts helped Cornell qualify for the IC4A title in the Indoor IC4A Championships, running the second leg of the 4x800 relay before sitting out of the final. Cornell would win that final. He was also on the distance medley relay team at Penn Relays that took sixth place in the college section, as he ran the anchor leg. Potts returned to the 4x800 team at the Outdoor IC4As, running in the final this time to help Cornell take second place and earn eight points.

Before Cornell
Potts ran 12 varsity seasons of cross country, indoor and outdoor track for the Haddonfield Bulldawgs. As member of 10 separate state champion teams, Potts won eight individual state championships and was a member of three national championship winning relays in 2010. Potts has a personal record of 1:53.4 in the 800 from his junior year, a 1600 personal record of 4:14.14 from his sophomore year and a 3200 personal record of 9:18 from his senior year.
