Biography
Afadapa's up-to-date resultsAs a Junior (2014-15)Afadapa continued to be a top competitor in the high jump his junior season with the Big Red. Indoors, he finished first at 7’ 1/4” at both the Southern Tier Open and the Beantown Challenge. He also took first in the event at the SPRIRE Invitational with a 6’ 11” jump. He added second-place finishes at the George Mason Spring Invitational (6’ 8 ¼”) and the Cornell Outdoor Invitational (6’ 9 ¾”) and a third-place showing at the indoor Sykes-Sabock Challenge (6’ 7”).
As a Sophomore (2013-14)Afadapa continued to be a force in the high jump during his sophomore season for the Big Red. In his second go-round at the Ivy League Indoor Heps he marked a clearance of 6’ 8.25” to finish 8
th, besting his 10
th place mark from a season ago. He marked a season best 7’ 0.25” clearance to finish 4
th at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. He equaled that clearance at the Deneault Memorial Cornell to take home 2
nd place honors. Afadapa wrapped up his season with a personal best outdoor clearance of 6’ 6.75” at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
As a Freshman (2012-13)Afadapa was an immediate contributor for the Big Red during his freshman year, high jumping at the Indoor Heps and placing 10th. He also competed in the Eastern section of the high jump at Penn Relays, clearing 6' 5" for eighth place. He ended his season at the Outdoor Heps in May, placing eighth with a clearance of 6' 4 1/4" to just missing scoring for Cornell. His seasonal best of 7' 1" came indoors at the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge in January. He also ran the 60 hurdles one week at the Sykes/Sabock Challenge.
Before CornellAfadapa was a four-year track athlete in high school, serving as captain of his Cypress Ranch team for three seasons. He was third place at the Texas Class 5A State Championship in the high jump, and his team was the district champion in 2012. Indiviudally, he was the district and region high jump champion in 2012. He also played two years of basketball and one year of football.
PersonalStephen Oluwafemi Afadapa is the son of Harry and Robbie Afadapa. He has an older brother, Joshua, and a younger sister, Jocelyn.
