Sam Baxter's up-to-date results
As a Senior (2015-16)
Baxter had a strong senior campaign in both cross country and track. In the cross country season, he placed second in the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, sixth in the Canisius Alumni Classic, 29th in the competitive Brother Jasper Invitational, and closed the season with a 71st-place finish at Ivy League Cross Country Championships.
On the track, Baxter helped the 4x800 team to a fifth-place finish at Ivy League Indoor Heptagonals and placed sixth on his own in the 1000 meters. He finished the outdoor season on a strong note, placing second in the 1500 at IC4A Championships. He finished ninth in the event at Outdoor Heps, where he also helped the 4x800 team to third. He won the 1500 at the Big Red Invitational earlier in the outdoor season.
As a Junior (2014-15)
On the track, Baxter won the 800-meter event at Penn Relays in 1:54.88. At the Cornell Invite, he placed first in the 1500, crossing the finish line in 3:52.31. At Ivy League Heptagonals, his 4x800 relay team took fifth place.
As a Sophomore (2013-14)
In each of Baxter's races this year, he finished as one of the top four Cornell runners. At the Paul Short Open, he finished first for the Big Red and 57th overall with a time of 26:17.0. At The Princeton Invitational, he was the second Cornell runner to finish and was 65th overall. He then placed 12th at the Reif Memorial Run with a time of 25:29.6, good for fourth among the Big Red.
Baxter continued his breakout year with a fantastic track season. He posted a career best 1000 meter time of 2:30.92 to place 5th at the Deneault Memorial Cornell. At the Indoor IC4A’s, he posted his career best mile time of 4:13.13. He took home 2nd place at the Big Red Outdoor Invitational with a career best 1:54.89 in the 800. One week later he marked a career best 1500 time of 3:49.19 to take home 1st place at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational. Baxter wrapped up his second season with a 10th place showing in the 1500 at the Outdoor Heps.
As a Freshman (2012-13)
Baxter had an excellent freshman season for Cornell, starting things with a 33rd-place finish at the Yellowjacket Invitational. He then placed 26th in the open race at the Paul Short Run, and he took 67th at the Princeton Invitational. He took 11th place at the men's race at the John Reif Memorial Run to conclude his Cornell year, but he also placed ninth at the Canadian National Cross Country Junior Championship.
In the track, Baxter took part in seven meets for Cornell, racing the 1500, the mile and the 3K. He set a season best in the mile of 4:18.83 at the Deneault Invitational in February and had a top time of 3:54.98 in the 1500 at the Big Red Invite in April to end his year.
Before Cornell
Baxter was one of the top distance runners in Ontario and all of Canada when he sped to a 9:12 two-mile. He’s been a low mileage athlete who will develop into a college star. He was a four-year cross country and track athlete in high school as well as a four-year swimmer. He was an indiviual CWOSAA Champion in the 1500-meter race in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and he was a 3000-meter champion in 2011.

Sam Robert Hanley Baxter is the son of Paul and Julia Baxter. He has an older sister, Erica.
