Biography
At Cornell
A three-time USAG All-American on bars, Jorgensen won the USAG national title and an Ivy Classic crown as a freshman in 2011 and finished second at USAG nationals as a junior in 2013 while capturing an ECAC crown. Jorgensen, who was named the ECAC Specialist of the Year in 2013, led the team with her 9.685 straight average and her 9.796 RQS score in 2013, going 9.8 or better on bars in five of her final six meets of the year. She was also a regular in the beam lineup with a season-best of 9.7 at the Pittsburgh Quad Meet. Jorgensen placed seventh at nationals on bars as a sophomore in 2012 after posting a career-high 9.875 in the prelims and competed on the event in every meet. She also saw action in the beam lineup. Jorgensen placed third at the Ivy Classic with a 9.825. She competed as an all-arounder during her rookie year, including putting up a 9.825 on bars at nationals to rank seventh on Cornell's all-time list. She also finished third in the event at the ECAC championships. Her 38.025 in the all-around in her second collegiate meet was the eighth-highest total in school history. She scored 9.625 or better on all four events in 2011.
Prior to Cornell
A three-year Level 10 regional qualifier, Jorgensen captured the regional beam title in 2006 at Level 9. She competed for Golden Gate Gymnastics and attended Acalanes HS.
Personal
Melanie Michelle Jorgensen is the daughter of David and Yvonne Jorgensen and has two brothers and a sister.
